WHAT IS ADVANCED OPEN WATER?
The PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course is about building experience through diving. Across five Adventure Dives, you’ll work on different areas of your diving, including the required Deep Dive and Underwater Navigation Dive. The remaining dives can focus on other skills and experiences depending on the location and conditions.
The goal isn’t simply to go deeper. It’s to become a more confident, capable and aware diver, with better control, better judgement and a much bigger underwater world available to explore.
PADI Open Water Divers or equivalent who are ready to take the next step in their diving. You must be at least 12 years old, hold an Open Water certification or equivalent, and be medically fit to dive. You do not need a large number of logged dives before starting. AOW is designed to help you build that experience with an instructor alongside you.

Learn Before You Dive
Complete the PADI online learning for your Adventure Dives before getting into the water. The theory introduces the planning, skills and considerations you'll use during each dive, so you arrive ready to focus on the experience underwater.
Go Deeper
Experience diving beyond your Open Water depth range while learning how depth changes the way you plan and manage a dive. You'll build greater awareness and confidence while diving deeper with your instructor alongside you.
Find Your Way
Learn to navigate underwater using a compass and natural references. You'll practise techniques that help you understand where you are, where you're going and how to become a more confident and aware diver.
Choose Your Adventures
Choose three more Adventure Dives based on your interests, training location, conditions and availability. This is your chance to explore different areas of diving and build experience around the kind of diver you want to become.
Get Certified
Complete the required learning and all five Adventure Dives to earn your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification. Your certification is issued digitally through PADI and becomes part of your diver credentials.
